About PrototypeVerdict

We may earn a commission if you buy through links on this page. How we make money.

PrototypeVerdict tests AI app builders, the tools that turn a plain-English description into a working app, and tells you what we found in plain language.

What we do

We build the same three small apps in every tool we review, from the same three prompts, pasted word for word:

  1. A client intake portal with logins, a form, file uploads and an admin view.
  2. An invoice tracker with automatic totals, overdue status and a dashboard.
  3. A one-page landing page for a made-up bookkeeping business called LedgerLight.

For each build we log how long it took, the credits or tokens it used, what broke and whether the fixes worked. We also check that a client can’t see the admin view, take phone-width screenshots and look at code export. We use made-up businesses and test accounts only, never real client data, and we don’t publish the test apps. The full method is on our how we test page.

Our test sessions are run by AI agents working in real accounts on the plans we bought (Bolt on its free plan). They follow our fixed build prompts, and every result is logged and reviewed. AI tools also help us draft and check our pages.

So far we’ve tested Lovable, Base44 and Bolt.new. Start with the Lovable review, the Base44 review, Base44 vs Lovable or Bolt vs Lovable.

Who it’s for

We write for practical readers who want to know whether a tool will do a job and what it costs:

  • Non-coders who want a working app, not a tutorial on programming.
  • Freelancers and small businesses building client tools, trackers and simple websites.
  • Accounting and finance professionals looking at intake portals, invoice trackers and internal tools. Our test builds are aimed at that kind of work, and we point out where client data needs extra care.

How we’re funded

PrototypeVerdict is free to read. Some links on the site may be affiliate links, which can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Rankings aren’t for sale, and tools that pay us nothing are tested the same way. The details, including which tools can pay us, are in our affiliate disclosure.

We pay for the plans we test. For our Oct 29, 2026 round we bought Lovable Pro and Base44 Builder on monthly billing at their regular prices. We tested Bolt.new on its free plan, so our Bolt results don’t cover its paid plans.

Our editorial policy explains how we keep pages accurate and independent.
